SVLS surveyor sits on education panel at the International Laser Scanning Conference and Exposition presented by Leica-HDL.
Tim Redd, company principal and part time educator represented several local educational institutions driving a panel discussion session at the conference.  Tim holds teaching appointments at Stanford University and SJSU where he includes laser scanning as one of the methods of surveying in courses he teaches.

During the panel session Tim described his experience in bringing laser scanning to the classroom and answered questions from the moderator, Geoff Jacobs Senior Vice President, Leica-HDS and from the audience.  Training and education for surveyor in scanning is a topic on interest to many employers and agencies which utilize laser scanning.

SVLS upgrades its laser scanner fleet to include the latest Leica technology.
This month Silicon Valley Land Surveying, Inc. took delivery of a Scan Station 2, a time of flight type 3D full field-of-view laser scanner capable of capturing 50,000 survey points each second.  Not only is SVLS the first surveying company to deploy this technology in our area, we are the only one with two scanners in our inventory.

Land surveying principal speaks at Annual CLSA conference
Tim Redd, company principal-in-charge of land surveys and laser scanning, presented an educating lecture and Power Point presentation about laser scanning at the Reno Nevada CLSA annual conference in February, 2008. The presentation was aimed at practicing surveyors who desired a fundamental explanation of laser scanning survey technology and the current state of deployment of this technology in the AEC industry. Laser scanning is rapidly becoming the method of choice for field data collection of existing conditions surveys.

The CLSA annual conference is the largest annual surveyor conference on the West coast. CLSA will often post the proceedings and Power Point slides from this website http://www.californiasurveyors.org/

Among the session attendees was Geoff Jacobs, senior vice president, Leica Geosystems, HDS, said he was very exciting by the presentations and its coverage of laser scanning technology and work flows. Most of the session attendees were not currently using laser scanning but are considering expanding their service offerings to include scanning.
